"Bob Mann"Hello…I’m Bob Mann, and thanks for visiting!  Taking a tip from one of my mentors, Chris Farrell—who began his Internet marketing career “from the ground up” two years ago with an ongoing blog documenting his thoughts, goals, and ever-present obstacles and frustrations—I am starting something similar today.

After several months of “gathering information” about many aspects of Internet marketing (including learning something about web page design itself),  it’s now time to get serious about actually making some money at this!  But knowing how skilled I can be in the art of procrastination,  I’ve decided that the best way to “hold my feet to the fire” is to make myself publicly accountable!  Which means that if you keep an eye on this blog during the next 26 weeks, you can see exactly what I’m doing day-by-day and whether or not I”m all talk, or if I’m actually “walking the walk” and doing what I need to do reach the goal I want to achieve.

So, what is that goal—and why 26 weeks?  Well, the goal is simple—by July 31, 2010, I want to have a gross income from my online activities of $200 per day…which would be about $200 per day more than I’m making right now!  Doing the math, that calculates to $73,000 per year.  And hopefully, that gross figure will be pretty close to the net figure, since I hope to achieve most or all of that income without doing any paid advertising.  Why 26 weeks?  Well, today is the first of February, and the first of the month (especially when it falls on a Monday) is a good time to start something new. Half a year from now, or 26 weeks, will be the very end of July, and I believe my goal should be achievable by then.   And oh yes—there’s another reason for that deadline:  if I do reach that goal I’m going to celebrate by going to Europe in September!

So, the combination of these “carrots” (a real income plus the European adventure) and that “stick” (not wanting to be publicly embarrassed in this blog if I don’t achieve my goal:-) should keep me on track and very busy during the next 26 weeks.  I do plan to take weekends off, but my regular Monday-through-Friday work schedule will include evening updates right here on what I’ve been doing  and how things are going.   My hope is that all of this will serve as an inspiration for you to see that creating an online income is something that you can do as well.  It isn’t rocket science, but it does involve a “learning curve” and a decision to treat this just as one would treat any other new business venture (i.e., as a real business).

Before I close, I’ll mention that today I spent a fair amount of time setting up this WordPress blog (smart idea….otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this!).  And, not surprisingly, just when I was applauding myself for having successfully installed it, something went wrong and I was “locked out” of the system, unable to access WordPress at all!  So I had to ask for help (not easy for me to do:-) but “Jeff the Web Guy” (the webmaster at Chris Farrell Hosting, which I use) came quickly to the rescue and bailed me out with his sage advice.  After installing WordPress a second time in a different location, and then deleting the previous wrong installation, I think I’ve finally got it right!  Today’s lesson:  online, as in life, one should always expect the unexpected and just keep going until you get it right!

So tune in tomorrow evening and see what I did on Day 2. (I can hardly wait to find out myself!)  And of course, I welcome your comments and any questions you have about all this…..
